Nancy Constance, the first
Flotilla 33 Webmaster, recruited Coast Guard Auxiliary pilot Gary Ellis to photograph the
creeks and shoals of the Northern Neck at an extreme low tide. Astute skippers wait
for years to catch a glimpse of exposed shallows and what they learn then is revered as
'local knowledge' ever after. Once you've seen Gary's aerial photos of the approach
to Broad Creek in Deltaville, for example, you will never, ever again consider the utter
folly of failing to honor the FL G "1" mark at the outer end of the approach
channel.
The first five pages of
these photographs were made in the Fall of 1999. The sixth page has pictures of the
Corrotoman River, Moran Creek and Taylor Creek made in the Fall of 2001. The images
are large and take time to load. Be patient. They're worth the wait.
(We've labeled these pages
'The Rivah!' which they aren't by geographic specificity, and the title is probably too
clever by half. But if you got here and go on to explore the images you probably
won't want to lodge a complaint.)
